Legislative Advocacy
"Speak out for those who cannot speak, for the rights of all the destitute. Speak out, judge righteously, defend the rights of the poor and needy." - Proverbs 31:8-9
Legislative advocacy is a crucial part of building God's kingdom here on Earth. Our legislative efforts have been largely successful, and we look forward to continuing our mission to help federal and state laws to reflect God's will for all of us. Careful research and discernment goes into each of the provisions we advocate for when making our case. Our goal is to glorify God, not to pursue a personal or partisan agenda. Please take a look below to see what we currently have in the works.
West Virginia
Funding For Flood Resiliency Trust Fund
Current Status: Will Be Reintroduced in 2027
Legislation concerning flood mitigation projects will not make it on the legislative calendar for 2026. We are deeply disappointed by this, but we are not giving up. This legislation will hopefully be reintroduced in 2027, and will help lower income communities in southern West Virginia mitigate the risks of flash flooding, with no cost to the taxpayers.
Ohio and Pennsylvania
Abolition of the Death Penalty
Current Status: Successful!
Governor Shapiro (D-PA) and Governor Mike DeWine (R-OH) both extended moratoriums on the death penalty through the end of 2026 and beginning of 2027. We were successful, but moratoriums means that this will be a yearly fight. So we will be back next year to fight this.
Tennessee
Grocery Sales Tax Cut
Current Status: Unsuccessful
Sadly, Tennessee's unnecessary grocery tax will remain in place. Legislators introduced a bill, but were not able to come to an agreement on how the legislation would be implemented, and so it has been placed at the back of the legislative calendar.
West Virginia
Eliminating the Income Tax
Current Status: Partially Successful
We will consider this a partial success. While we hold that it is immoral for the government to take from that which people have rightfully earned for themselves, there was some success. For West Virginia, personal income tax on social security benefits has been eliminated, and there is an overall 5% income tax reduction still being discussed. We are moving in the right direction.
West Virginia
Eliminating The Property Tax
Current Status: Partially Successful!
The Catholic Church asserts the moral right for one to rightfully maintain ownership and protect one's property. We were only partially successful in our efforts here. The homestead tax credit was expanded, which helps seniors by taxing property at $20,000 - $40,000 less than it is formally assessed. Again, we are moving in the right direction.
